GATHERING MUSIC Wild and Free by Sarina Partridge

Let there always be something wild here
Beating at the heart here
Standing at the edge of what’s known
There will always be something wild here
Wild and free
Wild and free

WELCOME

* OPENING SONG  Some Glad Morning (I’ll Fly Away)

Some glad morning when this life is o'er,
I'll fly away;
To a home on God's celestial shore,
I'll fly away (I'll fly away).

[Chorus]
I'll fly away, Oh Glory
I'll fly away; (in the morning)
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by,
I'll fly away (I'll fly away).

When the shadows of this life have gone,
I'll fly away;
Like a bird from prison bars has flown,
I'll fly away (I'll fly away)

Chorus

Just a few more weary days and then,
I'll fly away;
To a land where joy shall never end,
I'll fly away (I'll fly away)

OPENING PRAYER

PASSING OF THE PEACE

Peace be with you… ...and also with you

* SONG Standing in the Need of Prayer #519

Not my brother, nor my sister, but it’s me, O God,
standing in the need of prayer;
Not my brother, nor my sister, but it’s me, O God,
standing in the need of prayer.

Refrain:
It’s me, it’s me, O God,
standing in the need of prayer;
It’s me, it’s me, O God,
standing in the need of prayer.

Not the preacher, nor the deacon, but it’s me, O God
standing in the need of prayer;
Not the preacher, nor the deacon, but it’s me, O God,
standing in the need of prayer.

[Refrain]

Not my father, nor my mother, but it’s me, O God,
standing in the need of prayer;
Not my father, nor my mother, but it’s me, O God,
standing in the need of prayer.

 [Refrain]

Not the stranger, nor my neighbor, but it's me, O God,
standing in the need of prayer;
Not the stranger, nor my neighbor, but it's me, O God,
standing in the need of prayer.

 [Refrain]

SCRIPTURE Isaiah 65: 17-18, 21-23 read by Sandra Hamilton

READING From “You are Accepted” by Paul Tillich

SONG OF PREPARATION - Amazing Grace

 Amazing grace, how sweet the sound,
that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
and grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
the hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come;
'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
and grace will lead me home.

When we've been there ten thousand years,
bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise
than when we'd first begun.

SHARING OF JOYS AND CONCERNS

When in the past week did you see God at work?
What concerns would you like to turn over to God’s care?

PASTORAL PRAYER & LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father/Creator/Parent, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever.  Amen

* CLOSING SONG Blackbird

 Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life,
You were only waiting for this moment to be free

Black bird fly, black bird fly
Into the light of the dark black night

Black bird fly, black bird fly
Into the light of the dark black night

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Spring Migration Birding Group - May 4th

No experience necessary. Sign up here, bring a pair of binoculars, and join us at a world-famous birding spot right in our own neighborhood.

Book Group reads The Reservation - May 6th

Join us for our next Book Group on May 6th at 7pm. We’ll be reading The Reservation by Rebecca Kauffmann:

The Reservation explores the loves and labors of an ensemble of more than a dozen restaurant workers as they strive to get perfect meals to table. Early morning on the day of the most important booking in the restaurant’s history, the discovery of the theft of 22 ribeye steaks creates turmoil amongst the staff and an endearing “who-done-it” ensues.

Rebecca Kauffman's talent for crafting rich, empathetic characters is on full display in The Reservation, where she guides a vibrant cast through a single, high-stakes day in the life of a bustling restaurant. With her signature wit and spirit, Kauffman serves up a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the drama, grace, and grit it takes to bring a beautiful meal to the table—served with a side of chaos.

Sign up here if you plan on reading with us!

The Ancient World of Jesus Small Group - May 7th

Jesus said some outlandish things. But when we recognize that he lived in a specific historical moment of political and religious conflict, his ideas make a whole lot more sense. Together, we will learn about the ancient context that influenced Jesus' ministry to help us better interpret and apply his teachings as we navigate our own turbulent times as individuals, citizens, and seekers of justice. The group will meet May 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th from 7:00 - 8:00 pm. Sign up here!
